Class descriptions

 Movements can be modified for any fitness level from beginner to advanced. No dance, barre, pound, yoga, MELT or Pilates experience is required unless specifically stated in the class description.


 

MAPLE BARRE (SIGNATURE) & Barre Express

Using a variety of movements developed from Pilates, Yoga, and Ballet, our Barre classes are designed to burn maximum amount of calories, tone the entire body, and improve strength, flexibility, and coordination. This full body workout utilizes a 37″ fixed Ballet Barre and small props. The studio provides 1 – 4 pound weights, fitness balls, and resistance bands along with inspiring and energetic dance music for every class. Wondering why we call this the Maple Barre? Before the North-end streets were numerically zoned, “28th” use to be called Maple Street. We wanted to commemorate the name to keep the history connected to this beautiful space. (60 minutes) Barre Express is a condensed version of this class running 45 minutes (class instructor has the option of using bands vs. barre for balance challenges in express classes).

 

 

MAPLE BBARRELESS & BBARRELESS EXPRESS

bbarreless is a fusion style class with a true foundation of Pilates performed to the beat of the music. You will experience a mind body connection fused with dance, Pilates and Yoga. bbarreless is about connecting your mind to the body, so that you not only strive to move with precision but also have FUN. Classic barre exercises have been adapted to be performed in the center of the room either standing or on the floor. You will challenge the core for balance and total body proprioception. Dancers have performed floor barre for generations as it allows them to explore new movements and gives them the strength to move with elegance and ease utilizing the floor for support. Be prepared, this is a full-on amazing workout! (60 minutes) bbarreless Express is a condensed version of this class running 45 minutes.

 

 

Barre HIIT

This short duration, but high intensity interval training (HIIT) class creates a prolonged afterburn, or EPOC (excess post oxygen consumption). This type of training causes the body to take longer to return to its state of rest, so it continues to burn calories (5x more) at a higher rate long after the workout session has completed. Classes consists of 30 minute, 20 second intense intervals followed by 10 seconds of rest.  Movement can range from cardio to core work but is sure to give you a sweat and burn. The last 15 minutes might consist of yoga, pilates or slower core work. The results with microburst workouts are backed by research.. you will feel amazing and strong within the first few classes. (45 minutes)

 

 

Cardio BARRE

Cardio Barre is our newest class combining heart raising movement for the first part of class and isometric barre movement towards the end!  This class incorporates a more creative edge on endurance, balance, and strength. Clean gym shoes can be worn for this class!  Cardio barre is designed to burn tons of calories while strengthening the body.  You will love the energy and music with this hour class.  Depending on the instructor, this class works something unique each time. We recommend bringing water and a mat, we will supply all the props!. (60 minutes)

 

 

30/60 DAY CHALLENGE

This is your opportunity to take advantage of ALL our great classes, unlimited, for a consecutive 30/60 days.  Grab a friend and commit to a 4x per week schedule that provides a jump-start to your regular routine.  Our schedule is balanced with cardio, core strength, flexibility and just having FUN!  28th hosts both a FALL and SPRING challenge with a prize for the challenger attending the most classes.  JOIN IN!!!!

 

 

POUND

Using lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising, POUND transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. Instead of listening to music, you become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. Designed for all fitness levels, POUND provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, getting energized, toning up and rockin’ out! The workout is easily modifiable and the alternative vibe and welcoming philosophy appeals to men and women of all ages and abilities. POUND will be the best 45 minutes of your week, so join us and MAKE NOISE! (45 minutes)

 

 

InBody Dance

This is an original dance class born out of Celeste’s mission to facilitate dance as a movement practice accessible to everyone. InBody reminds us it is OK to have FUN, and our bodies have a natural rhythm just begging to sweat for joy on a dance floor! Repeated choreography is crafted by to specific songs (think Gaga, Janet, Beyonce, Madge, etc.), some of which repeat for up to eight weeks. The idea is you learn the steps and then stop thinking about them—as in, get out of your head and into your body. Part of the class may also be natural movement that flows organically with the feeling of the class. (Workshops Only, coming Winter 2024)

 

 

radical rebounding

Welcome to the newest class at 28th Street! Radical Rebounding is a transformative cardio- and strength- based class that will ignite your body and refresh your mind. Get ready to enjoy great music and have a ton of fun! Radical Rebounding is choreographed to provide a full body, energetic, and challenging class experience. Rebounding has tons of health benefits including: building balance, improving bone density, improving heart health, stimulating the lymphatic system, strengthening the pelvic floor, burning calories, stress relief and so much more! This class must be reserved - only 10 spots in the studio are available. We require sticky socks (barre socks) to be worn, a towel (recommend bath size), and water. Shoes are not permitted due to safety issues. Classes will range between 30-45 minutes depending on the day. Launching late October 2024!  

 

 

PILATES

Pilates is rhythmic sequencing for all levels of fitness. The class focuses on the development of core strength, flexibility, and coordination. Small props are used to increase resistance, deepen muscle movement, and provide variations on classical exercises. (60 minutes)

 

Low Impact sculpt

 

Sculpt is a beautiful way to increase endurance, strength, and overall fitness. The class combines ground based exercises with elements from various body weight training disciplines to create a fun, challenging workout experience. The sequence starts with a warm-up, moves into intensity intervals with weights, bands, and balls.  This is a low impact class so all choreography is with options to keep both feet on the ground. (45 minutes)

 

 

MELT® 

Reconnect** Rebalance**Rehydrate **Release your body from the inside-out. MELT® Method (www.meltmethod.com) is a guided class incorporating compression and lengthening techniques to revive and renew the synergy of your body. Using a medium density foam roller and soft balls, this class will systematically work through the entire body using specific maps to rebalance and rehydrate stuck tissue. Fascia plays an important role in the support and function within our bodies. In a healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration. It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When the body experiences physical or emotional trauma, scarring, or inflammation, the fascia loses its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted, and a source of tension to the rest of the body. This class aims to revitalize the fascia tissue, create better flexibility and freedom with all movement. Groove & Grind

Groove & Grind is a high energy dance class that combines sexy choreography with luxurious stretching and body integration. Within this hour-long class you’ll move through 12-14 contemporary pop and hip-hop songs with fresh choreography introduced every month.  The class incorporates powerful, sultry grooves with booty-popping grinds, incorporating strength and stamina within easy-to-follow repeating dance choreography.  Class ends with plenty of deep stretching and gratitude for our capable bodies and our shared community.  Groove & Grind is a safe place for all bodies, genders and identities, where you cultivate a personal loving space for yourself through movement. Erin brings her passion for dance and love of life to empower you to know yourself more fully.  Groove & Grind is more than following choreography, it's a feeling.  All levels are welcome.
